In a huge shake-up, the BBC has officially announced that Hollywood A-lister Michael Sheen will be stepping in to replace Richard Osman as the host of the beloved quiz show House of Games.

For fans who have enjoyed over 800 episodes since the show first aired in 2017, this marks the end of an era. The quiz, which has been a staple of BBC Two, has challenged celebrities to test their general knowledge in a series of daily rounds. With Richard’s sudden exit after 9 years, the spotlight now falls on Michael, whose star power and charisma promise to bring something new and exciting to the show.
While Michael Sheen is best known for his roles in The Queen, Twilight, and Good Omens, the actor admitted, “Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I’m incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set.”
Caroline O’Neill, BBC’s commissioning executive, expressed excitement over the casting decision, saying: “We’re delighted to have Michael Sheen stepping into the House of Games. His charisma and passion for playfulness will be a joy for audiences.”
House of Games has always had a special place in the hearts of quiz lovers, and with Michael taking the helm, it’s poised for a new era. Tamara Gilder from Remarkable Entertainment shared her enthusiasm, stating: “The show has always been a love letter to those who adore quizzes—and now we have a host who loves them as much as we do.”
The BBC has already teased that major changes are ahead for House of Games with a brand-new host leading the charge into the next chapter.
