Jamie, 50, took to Instagram, writing a heartfelt message for his mother, describing the emotional toll Alzheimer’s took on her. He expressed that losing her to the disease felt like losing her twice—once to the disease itself, and again when she passed.

“Sadly we lost our beautiful mum today on Mother’s Day,” Jamie wrote. “After a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s, she finally decided it was time to leave us. For anyone who knows what it’s like to have someone with this awful illness, you will know that you lose them not once but twice.”

He continued: “Our mum was always so strong, and to watch her over the years slowly turn into someone who is just a shell of who they once were is very difficult to take and watch.”

Jamie also thanked the staff who cared for his mother during her final years, expressing deep gratitude for their care. He closed his tribute with, “You are now at peace mum and we love you and we will miss you so so much. You were the first person to love me before the world even knew I existed. Goodnight mum R I P.”

Charley, 38, also shared her grief, acknowledging the immense pain of losing her mum after 12 years of living with Alzheimer’s. “My beautiful Mum left us today on Mother’s Day. 15/03/2026. The past twelve years were stolen from us, that’s the only way to describe this feeling. ‘The long goodbye,’” she wrote alongside an emotional post.

She thanked her followers for their support and the caregivers who had helped look after her mum in recent years. Charley also reflected on how alone she had felt during the diagnosis, which came when her mother was just 64 years old.

The Long Goodbye: Charley Reflects on Her Mum’s Struggle with Alzheimer’s

Earlier this year, Charley bravely opened up about the challenges of her mother’s early diagnosis and the emotional toll of watching her decline. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she recalled how her mum had forgotten a significant personal detail that led her to believe something was seriously wrong.

Charley, who portrayed Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale, explained that when she first suspected her mum had dementia, she felt isolated, with others not recognizing the seriousness of her concerns. “I think everyone around me at the time was like, you’re being dramatic, everything’s fine. I was like, ‘No, something is not right,'” she shared.

Reflecting on the emotional process, she admitted that she’d kept her mother’s diagnosis private for a long time out of respect for her privacy, but felt the need to speak out for Alzheimer’s awareness.
