Grammy-Winning Singer Talay Riley Dies Aged 35 Following Stabbing in East London
Talay Riley, the British singer-songwriter and Grammy-winning musician, has tragically died at the age of 35 after a stabbing incident in East London on Friday morning. The Metropolitan Police were called to Silvertown at around 9 a.m., following reports of a violent assault.

Officers discovered Riley, born Mark Orabiyi, in a garden on Rayleigh Road with multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, believed to be in his twenties, was also found with stab injuries and taken to hospital; his condition is not life-threatening.

Three individuals were arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the attack. One, a 27-year-old man, was later released on bail, while two others — a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman — were released without further action.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, leading the investigation, described the incident as “a tragic event” and extended her condolences to Riley’s family. She urged witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage from the area to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Riley’s family released a statement describing him as “a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who brought love, light, and joy to our family and all who knew him.” They added: “We will forever cherish his kindness, beautiful soul, and extraordinary talent. His presence touched many hearts, and his memory will remain with us always.”
Emotions from the music community have poured in. Riley’s brother, musician Scribz Riley (Michael Orabiyi Riley), shared on Instagram: “My heart is shattered! This isn’t real. Feels like a bad dream. Just before he went to bed, we spoke about the future, staying positive, and everything we still had to do. I never imagined that would be our last conversation. He was a teacher, an inspiration, and a guiding light for so many.”

Tributes have come from a host of artists, including rapper Chip, Stormzy, Craig David, and American singers Kehlani and Khalid. Many highlighted Riley’s extraordinary contributions to music, noting his work with Dua Lipa, Khalid, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Usher, and HER, for whom he co-wrote the Grammy-winning track Lights On from her 2017 album.
Riley’s untimely passing marks a devastating loss for the music industry, leaving behind a legacy of talent, creativity, and influence that will be remembered by fans and peers alike.
