Roxy Horner has revealed the emotional battle she faced on her wedding day to Jack Whitehall, as she struggled to manage her Type 1 diabetes. The 34-year-old model, diagnosed five years ago, shared in a new interview how she navigated her condition while preparing for her fairytale nuptials.
Ahead of the ceremony, Roxy admitted she feared her glucose levels could drop while walking down the aisle. She even scheduled one of her insulin injections strategically before tucking into the wedding cake to keep her levels steady.
Using a continuous glucose monitor on her arm alongside a hybrid closed-loop insulin system in her leg, Roxy carefully managed her health. Her anxiety was intensified by previous pregnancy complications, when her blood sugar levels had become unpredictable and forced weekly scans while pregnant with her two-year-old daughter Elsie.
“I was very anxious about managing my diabetes on my wedding day because I was thinking, ‘what if my glucose levels go really low while I’m walking down the aisle?’” she confessed.
Speaking to The Times, Roxy added that managing insulin around meals often required asking Jack to wait: “Sometimes we’re at a restaurant and Jack’s eating and I’m like, ‘Hmm. Can you wait?’”
Since their wedding, the couple have shared glimpses of their special day on Instagram. Roxy wore a puffball-skirted minidress with lace tights and trainers, keeping a whimsical white theme, while her “Mrs Whitehall” embroidered veil was draped over a chair for a photo.
The couple celebrated with their daughter Elsie, opened gifts from loved ones, and partied with guests until the early hours at Coworth Park, a luxurious five-star hotel and spa set on a historic Berkshire estate.
Roxy and Jack, together since lockdown in 2020, welcomed Elsie in September 2023 and became engaged in December 2024. Despite the challenges of her condition, Roxy’s wedding day proved a magical moment for the family.
