Maya Jama and Manchester City star Ruben Dias have ended their 18-month relationship, with sources confirming that the couple reached a mutual decision after facing increasing professional pressures. Friends close to the pair revealed that while there remains affection and respect between them, both are entering critical periods in their careers that made continuing the relationship difficult.
The split occurred three weeks prior to Maya’s trip to Inverness for filming Celebrity Traitors. Both have since removed intimate photos from social media, including images from a recent romantic getaway in Rome and earlier festive snaps from Paris and Disneyland Paris. The couple had lived together in a £4 million Cheshire property purchased last Christmas, further signalling the seriousness of their bond before the split.
Sources insist the separation was amicable. “There is no bitterness,” a friend said. “They still care deeply for each other, but with Maya’s filming schedule and Ruben’s World Cup commitments, this was the right time to pause.”
The couple first met at the MTV European Music Awards in November 2024 and were later photographed dining in Ibiza on New Year’s Eve. Their relationship became public in April 2025, though they had been discreet in sharing details on social media, with Maya even learning Portuguese to connect better with Ruben.
Despite the breakup, Maya remains focused on her career. She is set to appear on Love Island in Majorca from 1 June and will also feature in Guy Ritchie’s Netflix project The Gentleman. Ruben Dias will participate in the upcoming World Cup, starting with the first match on 17 June.
