David Beckham Becomes UK’s First Sports Billionaire as Gallagher Brothers Enter Rich List
David Beckham has officially become the United Kingdom’s first sports billionaire, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List, while Oasis legends Noel and Liam Gallagher have made their debut entries. Beckham, 48, alongside his wife Victoria, 52, has amassed a combined fortune of £1.185 billion, surpassing even members of the British royal family.

The Gallaghers, aged 58 and 53 respectively, are entering the list with a net worth of £375 million. Their fortunes surged following the band’s reunion tour last year, which generated nearly £400 million in ticket sales, along with lucrative music publishing rights. Additional income is expected from a forthcoming documentary on the reunion, produced by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders.

Beckham’s wealth stems from a diverse portfolio, including his fashion brand, film production ventures, and endorsement deals with major global brands such as Adidas, Pepsi, Armani, and Coty. The greatest boost, however, comes from Inter Miami, the football club he co-founded in 2018, in which he holds a 26% stake. The club has attracted top talent, including Lionel Messi and former Barcelona star Luis Suarez, driving substantial growth in value.

Other notable entries in the Rich List include music icons: Sir Paul McCartney (£1.05 billion), Sir Elton John (£480 million), and Rolling Stones members Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (£450 million each). Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen saw their fortunes increase significantly after selling the band’s catalogue to Sony Music for £1 billion in 2024. Celebrities from the sports world such as Lewis Hamilton (£435 million), Anthony Joshua (£240 million), and Tyson Fury (£163 million) also feature prominently.

The Sunday Times Rich List also highlights the UK’s youngest billionaires and millionaires under 40, including Gymshark founder Ben Francis (£800 million), and music sensation Ed Sheeran (£410 million). The compilation showcases a mix of self-made entrepreneurs, entertainment stars, and legacy wealth, underscoring the country’s diverse pathways to success.

Robert Watts, editor of the Rich List, noted that the number of UK billionaires has declined over the past four years due to higher taxation and emigration, raising questions about future economic growth and job creation within the UK.
The Rich List remains the definitive guide to the fortunes of the nation’s wealthiest individuals and families, reflecting both the booming industries and challenges faced by Britain’s elite.
