Phil Collins has made a rare and uplifting public appearance at Buckingham Palace, showing signs of recovery after years of serious health struggles. The 75-year-old music legend, who has battled pancreatitis, type 2 diabetes, hearing loss, and nerve damage affecting his hands and legs, posed with Sir Rod Stewart, Jill Collins, and Penny Lancaster at the 50th anniversary celebration of King Charles’ charity, The King’s Trust.
Despite having to use crutches, Phil looked dapper in a black suit with a striking red tie, smiling warmly as he met fellow stars and young award recipients. The event also welcomed celebrities including Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, and George and Amal Clooney.
In February, Phil opened up to Zoe Ball about the challenges of the past two years, admitting that past drinking habits, spinal injuries from his 2007 Genesis tour, and multiple knee operations had forced him to retire from touring in 2022. He described his health routine, including a 24-hour live-in nurse, five knee operations, and managing his medication, but stressed his determination to return to music:
“I’ve got some things that are half-formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished… maybe life in the old dog yet. Never say never.”
Phil’s legendary career includes three UK number-one singles, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globes, and eight Grammys, and his family remains a source of immense pride. He spoke fondly of his five children — Joely, Simon, Lily, Nicholas, and Matthew — praising their resilience and achievements, including Lily’s acclaimed acting career in Emily in Paris and Snow White and Mirror, Mirror, and Nicholas continuing his father’s musical legacy in Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics.
From a difficult period marked by serious illness and personal challenges to this rare palace appearance, Phil Collins’ presence at the King’s Trust anniversary is a powerful reminder of his enduring spirit, musical legacy, and love for his family.
