Kate Garraway was all smiles as she shared a tender moment with her new man, economist Liam Halligan, ahead of his 300km charity bike ride from London to Paris.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, was seen laughing and whispering affectionately into Liam’s ear as they enjoyed some quiet time together before he set off on his challenge. Liam, 57, wrapped his arm around Kate as he showed her an image on his phone, further fueling speculation about their blossoming relationship.
Kate and Liam, who have known each other for years, are said to have grown closer earlier this year. When asked about their relationship last month, Liam said, “It’s early days, we’ll see what happens.”
This is understood to be Kate’s first relationship since the tragic death of her husband Derek Draper in 2024. Derek, who had been battling severe COVID complications for years, passed away just weeks after suffering a cardiac arrest. Kate’s heartbreaking journey as a caregiver to Derek, along with the loss of her husband, has been well-documented over the past few years.
In a recent interview, Liam explained how they had rekindled their friendship. “I’ve known Kate for a long time, and I knew her late husband Derek. In recent years, we’ve both ended up single. Kate and I have become good friends again,” he said.
Kate’s personal life has been filled with immense challenges, but she’s shown remarkable strength, always honoring Derek’s memory. In a letter announcing his passing, she wrote, “Rest gently and peacefully now Derek, my love. I was so lucky to have you in my life.”
In February 2025, Kate shared with Hello! Magazine that her late husband would want her to live life to the fullest, despite her deep grief. “Derek would want me to be grabbing life because you learn how fast, and how easily, it can be snatched away,” she said. “I know he’d be saying, ‘You’ve got to get out and live, because I can’t.’”
Although Kate had previously expressed uncertainty about opening her heart to someone else, it seems she has found a source of happiness and comfort in Liam. The pair have formed a close bond, with Kate supporting Liam at the start of his ambitious charity bike ride.
The future seems brighter for Kate, as she continues to find joy and companionship after years of hardship.
