Bradley Riches & Scott Johnston: An Exclusive Look Into Their Beautiful Wedding and Heartwarming Love Story
Fresh from their wedding at Lillibrooke Manor & Barns in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Bradley Riches and his new husband Scott Johnston are positively glowing as they open up exclusively to OK! about their emotional ceremony and a love story that survived both lockdowns and an Aperol-fueled, chaotic proposal in Italy.
“Ready for all the details?” Emmerdale star Bradley laughs, glancing at Scott as they share the full story of their whirlwind journey to the altar. “There’s a lot to tell.”
From Drama School to ‘I Do’
The couple met in 2020 at drama school, where their love story began simply. “We lived next door, started as friends, and just never looked back,” says Bradley. Their bond was shaped during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 lockdown, a time that brought them closer together. “We spent a lot of time walking and talking outside, getting to know each other better,” Scott recalls.
A Proposal That Wasn’t So Smooth
Fast-forward to after Bradley’s stint on Celebrity Big Brother, where he placed sixth, and Scott had plans of his own. “I spoke to Bradley’s agent and booked a getaway to Sorrento, Italy,” Scott reveals. “I wanted to get him away from the whirlwind of work.”
Bradley recalls the odd request: “Scott told me to wear white, but I had no clue what was coming.” The proposal didn’t exactly go as Scott envisioned, as they ended up at a chaotic restaurant in Italy. “It wasn’t the romantic setting I’d imagined,” Scott laughs. “But it was all worth it when we returned to the villa.”
As the song “Count On Me” by Bruno Mars played in the background, Bradley walked in to find Scott surrounded by candles, the sunset over Sorrento, and a proposal he would never forget. “I just dropped to one knee,” Scott says. “And then our best friends ran out from hiding – I had no idea they were there!”
Despite the mishaps, Bradley was overjoyed. “I said yes, obviously!” he beams.
The Big Day: A Dream Wedding with Celebrity Guests
The couple, now known as Mr. & Mr. Johnston-Riches, tied the knot on April 8, 2024. Bradley’s father, Julian, served as the best man, and the event was filled with stars, including Celebrity Big Brother housemates, Strictly’s Nikita Kuzmin, and Coronation Street’s Colson Smith. “It was absolutely magical,” says Scott.
They shared their first dance to Bruno Mars’ “Count On Me,” followed by a full-on dance party. The evening included outdoor games like limbo and tug-of-war, and a surprise drag queen performance.
Post-Wedding Fun & Their Next Steps
Following the wedding, the couple hosted a celebration in Leeds with Bradley’s Emmerdale co-stars. However, their honeymoon plans went awry. “We were supposed to go to Turkey, but the hotel disappeared!” Bradley laughs. “We ended up in Portugal for a mini-moon – perfect weather, cocktails, and quality time together.”
Next up? A Caribbean cruise this autumn. “We’re really excited about it,” says Scott.
For Bradley, who will soon be taking a break from Emmerdale for Heartstopper Forever, this new chapter is all about enjoying the present. “For the first time, I feel settled. I’m just happy where I am, with a husband who loves me.”
As for the future, they’re looking ahead, with thoughts of children one day. “That feeling hit me straight after the wedding,” says Bradley.
