Kate Garraway Supports Liam Halligan as He Prepares for a 300km Charity Bike Ride

Kate Garraway was seen cosying up to her broadcaster friend Liam Halligan on Friday, as the duo grew closer ahead of his epic 300km charity bike ride. The Good Morning Britain host, 59, tragically lost her husband Derek Draper to Covid-19 complications in 2024, and has since developed a close friendship with Liam, who she’s known for over 20 years.

Kate, ever the supportive friend, smiled for a photo alongside Liam as he geared up to depart from the capital. Liam shared an update on social media, writing: “It’s today! London-to-Paris in 24 hours, 300km, on a tandem.”

Liam and Serge are aiming to complete the ride in 24 hours, raising funds for the charity in the process.


A Bond of Friendship and Laughter

Award-winning journalist Liam, a single father who previously worked as the economics and business editor at GB News, currently writes for The Sunday Telegraph. Recently, during an appearance on Mark Dolan’s show on Talk TV, Liam opened up about his close friendship with Kate. When Mark asked him about their relationship, Liam admitted: “It’s early days, we’ll see what happens. We’ve been good friends for years, and in recent months, we’ve become even closer.”

Liam reminisced about how he and Kate were reintroduced and how they’ve spent time together recently. He mentioned, “Kate and a lot of friends came to see my band, The Hooligans, perform in Saffron Walden, my hometown. Some of my neighbors were excited to see her and posted pictures.”

While Liam and Kate’s future remains uncertain, Liam was open about their friendship, saying, “Kate and I are good friends, and it’s still early days. We’ll see what happens.”


A Source of Joy Amid Grief

Kate, who has been through immense grief since Derek’s passing, has found solace in her bond with Liam. A source close to the Good Morning Britain presenter said: “Kate and Liam really enjoy each other’s company. They’ve been hanging out with their close circle of friends, and Liam has a great sense of humor that makes Kate laugh.”

Despite the challenges Kate has faced, her friendship with Liam has brought her some happiness. The source continued, “Kate doesn’t know what the future holds, but it’s lovely to see her smiling again.”

Recently, Kate joined Liam at The Railway Arms pub in Saffron Walden, where he was performing with his band. They were spotted ‘getting cosy’ as they enjoyed the evening with friends.

Another friend revealed, “Liam and Kate looked really into each other, and they seemed happy. She’s been spotted at Liam’s home a few times in the past few weeks.”

Kate, who has two children to care for, continues to heal from her loss, but it seems her friendship with Liam is helping her navigate through the toughest of times.
