This Morning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley welcomed a truly inspirational guest to the show on Thursday – young cancer campaigner Florrie Bark. Florrie, who has captured hearts across the nation, joined the ITV program via video link to share an update on her incredible health journey.
Florrie, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at the age of five, has faced multiple health challenges over the past few years. After undergoing intensive chemotherapy and a life-saving bone-marrow transplant, Florrie’s battle continued with the need for a lung transplant, which she received after being on the transplant list.
Florrie, who won the Child of Courage award at the 2024 Pride of Britain Awards, spoke to Ben and Cat about her health updates. She recently returned home from her stay at Great Ormond Street Hospital and shared how she is recovering after the successful transplant.
Recalling the moment she received the news that she would be getting a lung transplant, Florrie explained with excitement, “It was amazing. Mummy was crying, daddy and mummy were both crying. I was just like, yes!” Her positive and upbeat attitude during such a difficult period touched viewers, especially as she described rushing to pack her outfits for the hospital, all while wearing a tiara in the ambulance.
Her mother, Stacey, also spoke emotionally about the experience, saying, “It’s like having a newborn again, when they start doing things, you celebrate every win, every little step she’s taking.” She praised the doctors and nurses at Great Ormond Street for their dedication to Florrie’s care and how her daughter has continued to show resilience and determination throughout her journey.
Despite the difficulties, Florrie’s family has remained positive, with Stacey noting that Florrie is now eager to return to school part-time in the next couple of months. “I’m really excited,” Florrie added, mentioning how she’s looking forward to expanding her social circle and spending more time with family indoors, including her cousins and grandparents.
Viewers were quick to praise Florrie, with many taking to social media to express their admiration for her strength and positivity. “What an absolute angel is Florrie, beautiful girl,” one viewer wrote, while another said, “Florrie is an inspirational ray of sunshine.”
Others reflected on how Florrie’s story made them rethink their own struggles. One viewer wrote, “Florrie is such an inspiration, makes me realise any problems I have are nothing compared to what she’s been through. And she just keeps smiling!”
As Florrie continues her recovery, her story of resilience has inspired many, and viewers are eagerly following her journey. Cat and Ben also shared their admiration, with Cat Deeley calling her a true “legend” on the show.
Florrie’s appearance on This Morning further reinforced her status as a beacon of hope and positivity, showing that even in the face of adversity, a positive attitude and the love of family can help overcome the most challenging of circumstances.
This episode of This Morning was a reminder of the importance of family, community, and resilience as Florrie continues her journey toward recovery, surrounded by the love and support of those closest to her.
