In an emotional post shared with her 116k followers, This Morning star Nicola Thorp revealed a heart-wrenching family cancer journey that will have you reaching for the tissues. The 37-year-old actress opened up about her father Geoff’s recent battle with bowel cancer—but don’t worry, this story has a happy ending.
Nicola began by sharing a deeply personal update: “A month ago, Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Don’t worry – there’s a happy ending,” she said. She explained that the initial shock came when her father, Geoff, went to the hospital for what was thought to be appendicitis, only for scans to reveal something far more sinister. “Time stopped for a while, and we didn’t know which way things were going to go,” she confessed.

💪 Geoff’s Fighter Spirit 💪
But true to the Thorp family spirit, Geoff faced his diagnosis with his trademark dark sense of humor. Nicola shared a video of him laughing in the hospital at one of his own jokes—so much so that he nearly split his stitches! “If Mum took too long to decide what to have for dinner, Dad would joke that he might not have long left. Well, now the joke’s on him because he’s tumor-free,” Nicola said, her voice thick with emotion.
Geoff had a laparoscopically assisted right hemicolectomy, a keyhole surgery to remove half of his large intestine. Nicola described the surgery in her usual light-hearted style: “His tumor is gone. Delivered through the sunroof!” she quipped.
🎗 A Critical Message for Fans 🎗
Nicola was quick to acknowledge how lucky she and her family are to have received such positive news. But she also used the opportunity to raise awareness, urging others to take their health seriously. “1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime,” she shared. “It can’t always be the other guy.” She urged her followers to schedule those important screenings, including colonoscopies and stool samples, saying her father’s experience could inspire others to take action.
❤️ Gratitude and Love ❤️
The support from Nicola’s fans was overwhelming, with many sending love and well-wishes. Her husband, Nikesh Patel, commented, “Proud of you, Geoffers! Get well soon, we’ve got loads of DIY for you to do.” Another fan wrote, “So glad to hear he’s on the mend. Sending you all love,” while a third added, “I love you and your family so damn much. Absolute ledge, Geoff! Proud of you all x.”
Nicola ended her post by thanking the NHS and her father’s surgeon, but also expressing her profound gratitude for her “best parents in the world”. She called them the “very definition of a team,” and said, “Any obstacle they face just makes them stronger.”
