Jesy Nelson Shares Heartfelt Moment as Daughter Says ‘Mama’ for the First Time Amid SMA Battle
In an emotional update, Jesy Nelson shared a sweet clip of her daughter Story saying “mama” for the first time, expressing how this moment made her “life complete.” The former Little Mix star, who has been candid about her twins’ battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, has been a tireless advocate for newborn SMA screening in the UK since her daughters were diagnosed with the condition.
Jesy, who has been campaigning for the NHS to introduce SMA screening for all babies, shared the touching milestone with her followers, posting a video of Story lying on a blanket surrounded by cushion toys while softly uttering “mama.” Jesy wrote alongside the post, “Story said Muma for the first time my life is complete.”
As she continues her campaign to make SMA screening available for all newborns, Jesy is celebrating the progress that has been made. Last month, the government announced plans to introduce screening for SMA in England by 2026, marking a significant step forward for the SMA community.
Jesy also shared that while it’s a huge victory, the campaign isn’t over yet. There’s still much work to be done, with only certain areas in England offering the tests. “It’s a bit bittersweet,” Jesy explained, highlighting the “postcode lottery” issue, where some babies may miss out on the test based on where they live.
Despite the challenges, Jesy remains dedicated to pushing forward, as she proudly celebrates every small victory in her fight for her daughters and others affected by SMA.
Additionally, Jesy recently made headlines after offering a £10,000 reward for the return of her stolen car, which contained vital hospital equipment needed for her daughters’ care.
Stay tuned as Jesy continues to advocate for SMA awareness, and celebrates every precious moment with her family. 💖
