ITV Reality Star James Middleton Hospitalised After Collapsing Near Half Marathon Finish Line

Fitness influencer and former ITV reality star James Middleton has been taken to hospital after collapsing just metres from the finish line of a half marathon, following a life-threatening spike in body temperature.

James Middleton, who rose to prominence on ITV’s Survival of the Fittest in 2018, revealed he had been admitted to hospital after suffering a serious medical episode during a race.

The 700,000-follower fitness influencer shared a video from his hospital bed, explaining that the event had “not gone to plan” after he lost consciousness shortly before completing the course.

“I collapsed about 50 or 100 yards from the finish line — I don’t really remember anything,” he said.

Middleton disclosed that his body temperature had reached a dangerously high level, with reports indicating a fever of around 42°C. He was treated urgently at the scene, including being placed in an ice bath in an attempt to reduce his temperature.

He later confirmed that he had been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition in which muscle tissue breaks down and releases proteins into the bloodstream, potentially causing kidney damage.

The television personality credited a quick-thinking friend with helping to save his life, saying they carried him and acted swiftly to get assistance.

In the video, Middleton said he had already spent several hours in hospital and would need to remain overnight for further monitoring.

Despite the severity of the incident, he reassured followers that he was receiving excellent care and expressed gratitude to the medical team treating him.

“I’m very lucky to be here,” he added, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.

The incident has prompted concern among fans, many of whom took to social media to send messages of support and well wishes for his recovery.

Middleton, who has built a successful career in the fitness industry since his television appearance, suggested he may take a step back from intense physical challenges in the near future, joking that yoga could be his next focus.

The episode serves as a stark reminder of the physical risks associated with endurance events, even for experienced athletes, particularly when extreme conditions or underlying health factors come into play.
