Warwick Davis has revealed that a mystery woman, known only as “Sponge,” played a pivotal role in helping him “love again” after the tragic loss of his wife, Samantha, in 2024. The 56-year-old actor, best known for his role as Professor Flitwick in Harry Potter, was joined by his daughter Annabelle, 28, and son Harrison, 23, as he was honoured with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to drama and charity.

Arriving at the ceremony, Warwick was seen in conversation with Prince William, while his children and the elusive “Sponge” looked on. Warwick had previously paid tribute to this mysterious woman in his 2025 BAFTA Fellowship Award speech, where he emotionally credited her for showing him that life could still have meaning. “Thank you for showing me that life can still have meaning, and for helping me to laugh and to love again,” Warwick shared.

But who is this “Sponge”? While Warwick hasn’t revealed her full identity, he did mention that she reminds him of This Country’s Kerry Mucklowe, played by Daisy May Cooper. Warwick referred to Sponge’s unique accent and the way she speaks, adding a lighthearted tone to an otherwise deeply personal story.

The heartbreaking loss of his wife, Samantha, who passed away at the age of 53 after complications from an essential surgery, has been an incredibly emotional journey for Warwick and their two children. He spoke fondly of his late wife, recalling how she was his constant support, encouraging him throughout his career and reminding him to “get out there and do it.”

Warwick’s emotional tribute continued during his acceptance speech, where he thanked his children, Annabelle and Harrison, for helping him get through the incredibly tough year following their mother’s death. “Life has been pretty tough for me,” he admitted, “but thanks to the support of our wonderful children, I’ve been able to continue working and engaging in life.”

Samantha Davis, also an actress, died in March 2024 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Warwick dedicated his BAFTA Film Fellowship Award to her, sharing how much she meant to him, both in life and in his career. “She was my most trusted confidant and an ardent supporter of everything I did,” he said.

As Warwick continues to cope with the loss of his beloved wife, he is also looking ahead, preparing to return to the world of wizardry with the upcoming Harry Potter reboot. He is set to reprise his role as Professor Flitwick, continuing to bring his beloved character back to life for new generations of fans.

The identity of “Sponge” remains a mystery, leaving many to wonder if she’s a friend, a companion, or someone who’s been supporting Warwick in his time of need. What we do know is that she has provided him with the emotional support he needed to heal—and perhaps, she will one day be revealed.
